Gentle Yoga for Relaxation
Teacher: Bette Phelan
(90-minute class)

Offered Monday Mornings from 8 to 9:30AM
LOCATION: Waikoloa Community Church

Gentle Yoga for Relaxation is the perfect choice for those coming back from an injury or illness, or anyone looking for a lovely, stress free yoga class. This class emphasizes mental and physical relaxation that revitalize the body and calm the mind.

These classes move at a slower pace, and use movement awareness, postures with adaptations, slow breathing, deep relaxation and meditation to cultivate inner awareness and healing. You’ll learn asanas, principles of body alignment, methods of breathing, and the energetic foundation of yoga practice.

The class is geared to modify poses to address the specific needs of each student, incorporating deep relaxation and breathing in a safe environment. For a condition with severe limitations/pain, we recommend a one-time private yoga session for assessment.

TUESDAY EVENING CLASS ENDS AT THE END OF MAY '08

This class a offers an experience of movements that stretch, strengthen, and balance the body. Classes de-stress and quiet the mind, inviting deep peace, relaxation, and an open heart. Classes include warm-ups, poses (asanas), breathing (pranayama) and relaxation.

With the Kripalu Yoga approach students develop a healthy and strong body, an open and caring heart, and a peaceful and clear mind. Classes emphasize the importance of letting go of competition and judgment, being in the present moment, and embodying the qualities of compassion and acceptance.

Combining breath awareness and mindfulness during practice helps deepen the experience of each asana and allows students to attune to the wisdom of their own bodies. The practice of Kripalu Yoga is an opportunity to transform blockages in the physical, mental and emotional bodies and move toward reaching our fullest potential.

Sessions are taught in a gentle and non-competitive way in a very supportive environment. Suitable for all levels, though complete novices may prefer to begin with "Gentle Yoga for Relaxation".
